"DTV converter box that works well enough" 2010-02-15
By Xiaofan LIN (San Jose, CA USA)
Retail stores have very few choices of DTV converter boxes now. So I bought this one online based on a few reviews although I hadn't heard about this brand before. It's easy to operate without the need to first look up the mannual. It's working well since I bought it. The "signal" button helps a lot in tuning the antenna. The only thing I don't like is its very bright red LED when turned off. I have to put a semi-transparent cover over it to make it less flashing in the darkness.

"Poor Customer Service and no refunds" 2010-04-05
By Techy (fernley, nv)
This box did nothing at all. I had two channels before the box and I had two channeles with their box. I purchase a highly rated antenna still nothing. This weekend I looked all over the internet for ways to make it work nothing worked. Tried to send the box back for a refund within 3 days of the purchase they would not give me a refund.

What kind of customers service is this? Make sure you know this box works before you purchase.

"Amazon please STOP doing business with this company!" 2010-02-09
By dee (USA)
This company sucks !!!!! Like someone else wrote my converter box also stopped working. I called the company and got a recording to go online ...no help there, called the company again left a message ...no one called me back , called them again and pushed every exchange trying to talk to a real person and finally found a message that told where to send the broken unit for replacement...I mailed it off and after several weeks got a replacement that does not even turn on. I wrote a letter to them and they did call and said the problem is probably the cord and they gave me a telephone number to call if the replacement cord does not solve the problem...after 3 weeks and not recieving the cord I called the number and someone disconected me then it kept going to voice mail that said mailbox full. I eventually talked to the guy who originally called in response to my letter and he said the cord was suppose to have been sent...well it has been over 2 months and I still do not have the cord. I am so glad I bought a new digital TV or I would still have no TV in my kitchen. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY ....LISTEN TO THE CRITICAL REVIEWS WE ARE TELLING THE TRUTH!!!!

"What a Joke!!!" 2009-10-10
By Jody (Tiny Village in Vermont)
I got this convertor box with the government coupon. After installing, I noticed a constant humming noise (not bad if TV was loud enough) and faint diagonal strobing. I thought: Well, so much for the "wonderful new digital TV signal." One evening in early August, just 3½ months after installing, I turned the TV on, and had no digital picture. I checked to make sure that nothing on the box had been turned off or unplugged and that there were no loose connections between it and the TV, or antenna. Everything was fine. The box, usually quite warm to the touch, was colder than an icecube! I unhooked everything, and plugged the box into a different outlet: Nothing... dead. I had bought a Phillip's convertor box to hook up to my VCR so I could watch one channel/record another. I hadn't hooked it up yet, so unpacked it and hooked it up to the TV. Guess what?- NO humming noise, NO diagonal strobing..... PERFECT picture. The Access HD boxes were, I believe, created to fill an underestimated demand. People ordered them when there was little else available and got ripped off, in my opinion. Some might say that folks shouldn't complain if they got them with a coupon, but- the changeover was NOT supposed to incur fees/charges to the consumer. Now, I have to purchase a new box for my VCR at full cost to me. I think Amazon should feel embarrassed to be associated with the Access HD products!

"Swindled" 2009-09-29
By Glenn Markham Marks
In addition to terrible quality You cannot get warranty service. On their internet site you get warranty policy but are refered to a telephone number for service. You call the number and get refered back to their web site. You can not speak to a person. After going through their automated answering menu at considerable length, I was finally greeted with "good bye" and a disconnect.

"Slow response, cheap cable wire. ok picture, easy setup." 2009-07-12
By Muriel G. Pearson (USA)
I have purchased 5 different converters. (2 from "GEM" are already out of order after less than a month. 1 in my daughter's room is working fine.) 2 of them are HD access. It takes about 20 seconds for it to turn on. The cable provided with both converters have broken and we had to buy our own. There is NO warranty on any of these boxes if they were purchase with the government coupons. And I'm not too sure about the policy if paying for it fully. I have been told there are none either way. After 2 days of use and buying new antennas as well, I still can't watch a whole show without interruption of signal, and usually at crucial punchlines. The machine stays hot, and the cable connections heat up too. The volume doesn't work, but the mute does. I had to reset it several times before it would go out of mute. In my opinion this whole digital conversion is a scam and will eventually make it so all citizens have to PAY for any television service, including local news. We are doomed to cave to the cable man!..

"Great addition to motor home" 2010-04-12
By Robert Trebor (Utah)
Our motor home's TVs don't have digital tuners, so we added this converter box. We get great reception with the outside antenna raised, and fair reception even with it folded. It gives us a very good selection of channels. Now we are thinking we might want to get a digital converter for our home TV, put up a small antenna, and disconnect from cable.

"Works Great! Good for motor home!" 2009-09-12
By James D. Page (San Diego, Ca)
This converter box works very well. I had 3 stations before I connected it and now I have 16 stations. This one is great for motor homes because the power requirement is only 12Vdc. I wired it right into the 12vdc system in my motor home and now I don't need to run the generator to get good tv!

"NOT WORTH THE PRICE" 2010-02-08
By Margaux Paschke (New York)
I have an HDTV and I thought could use this indoor antenna to pick up more local HD channels instead of having to connect (and pay monthly charges) for another yet HD cable box. This did not turn out the way I wanted.

Reading the advertisement at a B&M store, I thought it was cheap enough to give it a try. Unfortunately, all it brought in was 3 channels. These channels were local public broadcasting channels like I wanted but nothing else was received. Weak signals messages flashed across my screen for all other channels. I live in the NYC area so I thought more channels would be available, but this was not the case. I moved the two antennas that pull out in all kinds of directions will no better success. I placed the unit itself in different places with the same results.

Maybe this would work better in conjunction with an outdoor antenna? I am not willing to attempt this and will return it.

"Garbage" 2009-02-23
By Anon
Bought this for new digital TV, and it absolutely doesn't work. Hooked up a different antenna (equivalent in price, not as streamlined) and all chaneels came in. Don't know if these antennas are defective or just (more likely) an intentional rip off...

"Complete junk" 2008-12-06
By Boom Shakalaka (Illinois)
I bought one of these for my new Toshiba LCD HD TV. Complete junk. The reception was dreadful. As an experiment, I pulled my non-amplified antenna off my old Panasonic 13" TV and attached it to the Toshiba. Presto -- a picture! This thing isn't even as good as a coathanger with tinfoil draped over it.

"Comes with everything that you need. Easy set up due to my friend, AJP." 2008-10-24

This itme works great with my Samsung HDTV. Now I can watch all of the FOX programming in HD. Hooray. Thank you AJP!

"a waste of money" 2008-09-21
By N8N (inside the beltway USA)
I bought this antenna at a local store because I had two TVs not connected to cable but only one pair of rabbit ears. I wasted my money. The old rabbit ears that came with my 20 year old TV set blow this thing away in terms of reception, and I can't get a single digital channel on the GE antenna but can get 10-15 with the rabbit ears. In fact, when using the signal strength meter on my DTV box I can actually see the signal strength DROP when I plug in the antenna's power supply. Just buy something else and save your money. Also the F-connector on the back is not very secure, I tried several different cables before finally realizing that the antenna was the problem. Only a screw on cable will work with this, the push-on ones won't grab.

"These are not built to last. One lasted all of 6 months." 2009-12-08
By Trillum (Portland OR)
I got two of these boxes early from Walmart but I have the AC120V but it looks exactly like this one for the digital conversion. I had two government coupons worth 40.00 each and bought two of them with the coupons. One is now not working as of this morning. Only the standby light (yellow) will light and it will not turn on with clicker nor with manually pushing the on button on the unit. We thought the night before it was acting up and reset it to factory settings then put in manufacturer code and it seemed to work after that but this morning it is not working at all. I think it has something to do with electrical since even the yellow standby light goes out too even when it is connected to electricity. I wonder if they are fire hazard as well. I think these units were rushed to market with very little testing. I think the federal government paid too much for these units since they were shipped in mass quantities to retailers just in time for the conversion and priced right around the 40.00 maximum allowable for the coupon. They made sure we had to buy these since no alternatives and they took advantage of charging the most for them that coupons would cover. I have a dvd player from Walmart that I paid less for that has lasted longer than this converter. Also the warranty for this unit is a joke at only 45 days. All Walmart had were these converters for sale so it was very much a monopoly at the time since you couldn't find other brands available. They knew these units were not built to last long hence the 45 day warranty. I would never buy another RCA product again after experiencing how they duped me with these converters.

"they converted it to 12 volt it was 120 volts" 2009-12-02
By wing (USA)
the way i figured it is ,someone buys these for like 40 dollars ,opens it up and either bypasses the ac powersupply or takes it out, cause the powersupply is coverting it from 120 to 12 (or using a step down converter 12 volt to 5 volt ect) ,they just solder 2 wires in where the powersupply used to go now they sellin them for over 100 dollars but id say now there is no RCA warranty its only warranted by the guy who did the converting which is ok but id do that myself rather then have someone else do it and make the profit, there is a market for the 12 volt versions .For Rv Ect.

"Doesn't work, even amplified" 2010-04-12
By rocketbon (USA)
I tried this antenna with a Sony HDTV with a digital tuner, indoors and in my windowsill, and it would not pull in any stations at all by itself, only 2 or 3 when amplified, and then the picture broke up into pixels and froze up at times. A friend's amplified antenna from Radio Shack worked well in the same area, bringing in dozens of stations, so it's not the area that I live in. Returned for refund.

"My bad experience" 2010-04-09
By Ranjan Bangalore Seetharama
This is the first antenna I tried, looking at all the great reviews I bought this product. I stay in DC a mile away from Capitol Hill on first floor with windows facing open street. This antenna did not catch even a single channel, yes, I swear not even a single channel. My TV does not have any button to tune the channels, this could be the problem. But I expected atleast few channels if not many. An amplified antenna might be better

"It broke when I set it up" 2010-03-15
By Steven Birnbaum (New York, NY USA)
This antenna is very flimsy. I screwed in one of the dipoles and the plastic support snapped under its own weight when I extended the dipole. Although the antenna is covered by a warranty, it isn't worth the postage to send it back. Others seem to be happy with this model so maybe I got a defective one. Just be very, very careful when you put it together. I wound up buying the next model up (the RCA ANT121) for just a few dollars more and it is a lot more sturdy. (I gave "affordable" only one star because although it cost only about $10, it's worth $0 if it breaks.) If you buy, I hope you have better luck than I did.

This converter box comes with an electronic program guide that shows information for upcoming shows and currently running shows. This DTV converter box also comes with on box buttons to allow control without the remote control. "Once again the "updated" version is inferior to the original..." 2009-12-05
By thomas
I own three of these. Two were purchased in 08' and had more and better features. With the $20,00 vouchers they only cost $8.00 each delivered. The new one bought in 09'cost $30,00 and now has integrated the EPG (electronic program guide) so that you get a singe channel list for hours of programming, the old one gave you a five channel list with two current shows. You could also scroll a longer list of programming while on that channel. Something I rarely do. I find it very useful to see what's on the five nearest channels simultaneously. I much prefer the multi channel list. After all, that is the whole point, seeing what else is on now! The new list requires channel surfing effectively defeating it's purpose of listing options. And the old one allowed you to change the channels or adjust volume at the device. The new one only switches on and off. It is clearly more cheaply made with fewer and less attractive features yet the price has doubled? Some progress? welloh.

It works erratically. I never know what channels I'll get. One day I get 25 the next day 10. I move the antenna to get PBS and lose ABC. I even use one with my new digital high defintion Tv because with one of these I get more channels. Makes no sense but that's the way it works. In my tiny house I have three Tvs set up in different rooms. Each room offers completely different channel selections. The whole house is only 1100 sq. feet and how this can be is truly amazing to me. This whole new digital technology is puzzling. Last night in a violent rain storm I got the best reception I can remember. Other times in bright sunshine, I can't get half the known channels. When the wind blows the picture scrambles. All these conditions are unique to my digital experience. Before digital I got excellent reliable reception as long as I had power. Now it's hit and miss. I find myself watching more and more on line shows. I also bought a PCTV device by pinnacle; Ultimate stick. In the same room and just feet away, it gets less than half as many stations. I use the included antenna from Pinnacle with that converter and get the best reception in the house. Bazaare! My wifi has become more reliable than broadcast Tv. Thanks Congress! Rushing into this whole thing was clearly motivated by a profit hungry industry with little regard for consumers. I certainly hope it improves to half the reliability we enjoyed Pre-digital!

"It works fine with my Wii" 2009-12-21
By Q. Zhu (San Jose, CA USA)
I used the product to play Wii on my 23" monitor. It works fine. I didn't see any resolution difference between settings. This may due to the limitation of Wii output. Since I'm not looking for HD performance, it is ok for me.

Some say the unit is hot even in standby mode and the audio output is very noisy. Well it doesn't happen for me. However, I did get a non-functional unit at first. But HDTVonPC is very responsive. They shipped me a whole new box with I returning the unit only for $3.88.

I checked out few similar products online. None of them has a perfect review. If you are just like me want to covert your RCA signal to VGA, I think this is a good buy. Make sure you ask HDTVonTV to test it before ship it out.

"Works with the Wii" 2009-09-14
By C. Wiese (Seattle, WA USA)
After enough research, I decided on the Geniatech HD GameBox Video to VGA Converter to try and hook up my Wii to a computer monitor. It works just as described. Connecting was no problem and image quality does the job. If you're looking for an affordable way to connect your game system, this works well!

"not bad, if you need it" 2009-07-05
By P. Chebib (USA)
i did some research before buying it,. once i received it i knew how to connect everything, which can be a hassle, but it works good to make use of your old lcd screes, not bad for the money, it is like having an extrra tv you never bought, while using older lcd or unused lcd screens.

the picture quality is adjustable to the screen resolution, no hd expected here, but it does the job.

has no remote, and is somehow techicsally challenging to figure out at first, but once isntalled it serves it's purpose. i gave it 3 stars b/c of the difficulty setting iot up, lack of remote, poor quality of the picture.

"Does not preserve aspect ratio. Video quality is acceptable." 2009-05-01
By _-^-_
I use this to display video from an NTSC VCR and a PAL VCR on a VGA monitor. It works with both NTSC and PAL. The video quality is acceptable, but it's noticeably worse than the video quality when displaying NTSC video on the Samsung T240HD monitor using that monitor's cable TV input. Note that it may require some adjustment of the color settings to get good quality results.

One problem is that the packaging claims that it's capable of adding pillarboxing to a 4:3 picture or letterboxing to a 16:9 picture, to display it on a 16:10 monitor without stretching. In fact, it cannot do either one of those things. This isn't a problem for some monitors because they can do those things themselves. (For example, the T240HD can pillarbox a 4:3 picture from the VGA input, but it cannot letterbox a 16:9 picture from the VGA input.) It's still dishonest for the packaging to claim this, though.

It does not include a closed-caption decoder.

It also seems that the composite input and the S-video input are not truly separate, because selecting the S-video input while the component input is connected to a signal will cause it to display the picture from the composite input in grayscale.

I haven't tried using the sound passthrough capability, because I don't need it.

It does not include a remote control, but strangely enough it does have a receiver for a remote control. This can be a minor annoyance because it will receive commands from remotes for some other devices.

I've owned it for about 3/4 of a year now, although I haven't used it too heavily since acquiring an LCD monitor which has an NTSC+ATSC cable TV input. I still use it to get a second NTSC input on the monitor, and for watching PAL VHS tapes.

One more thing: Amazon has the wrong product description for this item. The product description shown here is actually for the SuperaColorHD, which is mostly the same as this device, but which also includes (supposedly) an NTSC tuner (but not an ATSC tuner) and a remote control.

"Great product if you want everything through one monitor" 2009-04-01
By T. Garcia
I bought this product for my 24" 1920 x 1200 resolution monitor. So far I've run XBOX 360, Wii, SNES, N64, and PSP through the component inputs and will try to explain each as I saw it. I can't honestly review the SVideo input option because I don't use this kind of input from any device.

Disclaimer: This is a review from someone who would rather play the game than keep hoping for something that retains perfect graphics. It works very well with the condition that you accept the fact that every one of these devices WILL have degredation of quality to some extent, I've been looking this information up for a long time trying to figure out how to play games on my monitor. It has active components that cannot perfectly combine a signal. And by the way, the active components are why it runs hot as another reviewer mentioned but it seems to be well ventilated.

The Wii showed up slightly brighter and showed the graphics slightly fuzzier but it's a Wii... you don't buy it for the graphics. That's not to say the graphics are just barely acceptable; they really aren't too bad at all. Adjusting your monitor's brightness and contrast settings will work much better than the device's own options. I've played Mario Kart, Super Mario Galaxy, and deBlob with it so far and never had to squint or slow down because of this device's graphics and that's all that I need. The major concern with this one is that things in the distance seemed to become indiscernible more quickly than they do on a TV and the background's motion blurring can become overwhelming and dizzying if the camera turns very quickly. I say this with deBlob in mind specifically where you roll around and the camera frantically tries to follow you.

As far as the XBOX 360 goes, I wouldn't recommend using this device because of the high quality graphics; that's where I draw the line on degrading graphics since that's what the 360 is all about. I don't really account this into my rating because the 360 already has a specific cable to connect it to a monitor. I've used that 360-only cable on quite a few games on the same monitor and the output is much much better with it. If anyone reads this for XBOX 360 alone, get that cable instead of this GameBox and you will be much happier with the results for a much cheaper price.

As far as the classic systems N64 and SNES, there's not much to degrade since the graphics were never amazing but I've played Starfox (SNES), Donkey Kong Country (SNES), Starfox 64, Gauntlet Legends, Diddy Kong Racing, Mario Kart, 1080, etc. and found no problems with the graphics. Most of these games involve quick motion at some points but the motion blurring has never affected the gameplay in any way. 1080 Snowboarding, for example has some blurring behind the character when you make quick turns but it doesn't get in the way of the action at all. That blurring may be more noticeable when trying to follow the path of a small object like a ball as another reviewer mentioned. The image does fill the screen when I believe it should be 4:3 but I don't notice the stretching much at all until there's a pan-around cinematic. It's roughly equivalent to the stretching by putting a 4:3 game system on a 16:9 TV (except widescreen monitors are 16:10 ratio). These old systems give much better results than the new generation systems that have amazing graphics to retain.

The PSP requires progressive scan to play games and amazingly, this device did accomplish this with some time playing with the menu though I doubt anyone is buying this to hook up a PSP. The output definitely didn't fill the screen, however, and it was slightly off center but the graphics were fine and it was still bigger than a PSP's screen. You may be able to get better results if you play with the options some more, it wasn't too important to me but I did try several games on it with good results.

Another confusing issue to me is the lack of an instruction booklet. If you're not familiar with video input/output types and options, I can see this device being a severe frustration. Knowledge like YPbPr meaning HD input and CVBS meaning composite video (AV) will help you navigate the menus much easier. To be honest, I didn't know all of the information though and got some things working with trial and error and patience with the slow menu controls.

If you get output from AV input and it's in black and white, try checking your video options and change it to CVBS instead of SVideo.

And finally, I have absolutely no idea what the volume controls do. I've pushed those over and over and as far as I can tell, they do absolutely nothing other than help you to work with menus when needed. This shouldn't be a major problem if your speakers already have their own volume control as my computer speakers did.

Overall, this GameBox works well if you just want to play your games on a monitor and don't mind a bit of graphics degredation. It works very well with my widescreen monitor. It's ideal for playing older game systems but is still very able to play the current generation of systems with more noticeable quality loss (for those who don't mind this). Expect to spend some time figuring the menus out and configuring it for your monitor, but this is really only a one time adjustment that isn't required every time you want to play a game.

"Good Starter Antenna" 2010-01-31
By David B. Jaromnak (West Lawn, PA USA)
The GE 24727 Omni Amplified TV Antenna is a good value for the cost, especially for a starter Antenna inside the home. I am using it with a Sony XBR9 HDTV LCD and live about 45 miles from the network broadcast stations. I was not expecting very good results since I lived far away from the broadcast stations and with research found that I would be lucky to get good signal even with a roof top outdoor antenna. I bought this antenna to see if I could get anything at all and was surprised I could get a clear video/audio reception of both CBS and NBC stations. The unit comes with an AC adapter, features a built-in amplifier and a combined VHF and UHF antenna. I am capable of receiving 5 UHF stations and sadly no VHF stations. ABC is in the VHF, and I have not been successful receiving it or any other VHF stations. I also have found that for optimum viewing of NBC I need to position the antenna back about 1 foot, but when I do I lose CBS. I have adjusted so I can receive both, but sometimes I can get audio drop off and slight freezes, especially with CBS. I believe it is OK to have to move the antenna back and forth, but inconvenient. However, if you live closer to broadcast stations, you should be very pleased with this antenna, which is a very good value. The amplifier has a thumb wheel to boost to the full 20db gain, but I have found I need it all the way up to get anything. I also discovered that both the rabbit ear antennas need to be fully extended, even to receive UHF (the oval antenna below is the UHF antenna)so there must be some sort of integration between the UHF and VHF antennas. One plus is the UHF antenna has a ball that allows full 360 adjustment left and right and up and down. I believe through experimentation with positioning, ideal signal can be received. Considering I live far away from the main stations, in the blue and mostly purple range, the fact I can get these stations so clear makes this a great value. One day, I may upgrade to at least an attic antenna with separate Pre-amp, but for 1/2 the price, the GE Omni antenna works as expected. Unfortunately, due to the 6 foot coax cable, I must keep the antenna fairly close to the TV. Considering I would spend minimum $40 a month for satellite or cable, investing in this antenna for about $27 to $29 dollars is a good deal. I recommend this antenna, especially if you live 30 miles or less from a large city.

"Not Useful" 2010-02-06
By David C. Easter (Austin, TX United States)
The product did not work in my laptop/TV configuration. Only partial success was enjoyed: a video image was successfully sent to 2/3 of the TV screen, but the remaining 1/3 of the TV video contained a duplicate image. This is similar to old VCRs that need an adjustment in "tracking," but the product does not appear to have a feature to correct for tracking errors. While the product may work well in some systems, its success is far from universal. Buyer beware!

"Don't get taken by the price - this thing was poor quality and dead out of the box." 2009-11-08
By B. Himes
While this converter came with all the cables it said it did, it was still clear it was extremely cheap. The only thing that came with it in the way of directions for use was in Chinese and poorly translated. Even that was only specs - no instructions. Pay the extra $20 to get a converter that has directions in English and support you can call. That's what I'll be doing.

"I got it fast and it works." 2009-08-26
By Garry C. Jackson (Atlanta, gA)
The little box works and takes my dumb VGA output and sends it to my TV. It provides a good, broadcast quality picture. This product is particularly good because nearly every possible combination of cables needed is supplied along with the converter. It sometimes takes a reboot to synch up everything but that is more a function of the computer's functions than the box. The vendor shipped it promptly and standard shipping got it to me in a couple of days.

"Don't Bother" 2007-04-04
By KP (Chicago, Il)
Ok now I'm mad I recently bought this antenna from Home Depot about 2 days ago and paid $14.97, $16.06 w/tax and its on here for $8 what a waste. This antenna is really not worth it. The little circle is supposed to increase reception but didn't do much. After adjusting the antennas & circle in every position imaginable the channels were still not viewable. The picture colors were off & it showed double images. The sad part is I recently moved and couldn't find my old antenna so I decided to go by a new one instead of searching for the old one. I found the old one in a moving bag this morning & 1 of the antennas had been broken off I stuck it back on & that old broken down antenna works better than this one!

"48 Hour Wonder - Don't buy it." 2009-09-28
By James P. Mccormick (Sandy, Utah United States)
I purchased a couple of these with the $40 government coupons. I paid the amount over the $80 with a credit card. Happily I got this money back.It took several months to receive the product. The first unit lasted two days the other worked for six months. There is no customer service and no warranty available from Dish Networks for these units.I wonder how many hundreds of thousand, perhaps millions, of dollars Dish Network made from selling this junk to the US government through the government coupon program.

"Lousy" 2009-08-12
By Harry Widoff (Forest Hills, New York)

The DTV is terrible, doesn't get as many channels and some different, after being turned off it turns itself on at times. I had it change channels on me as well as having to be disconnected or shut off to clear a fuzzing picture

ALL BOXES - NEEDED BETTER SOFTWARE AND FEATURES AS WELL AS A "TV" BUTTON TO END REMOTE CLUTTER

"Horrible Customer Service" 2009-05-28
By mi
I only gave this product a poor review because of the horrible customer service. I had to return my box due to problems and was told that I needed to return everything, including the remote, etc. When I got my replacement box, the only thing included was the box, not the remote, the instructions, or the coaxial cable. I had to make numerous calls to customer service and tech support, and they all said that I should have only returned the box without any accessories. I kept telling them that was not what I was told , and if I sent everything to them, there was no reason they couldn't sent evrything back to me. I now had a completely unusable box. After I requested to be transferred to a supervisor, then to corporate resolution dept., I was finally told that I could be sent the remote, the instructions, and a coaxial cable. I received the remote and the instructions; but, no cable. I called the corporate rep (who left me his number & extension) at least 7 times times (long distance) over a few week period, and he never returned my call. I then called tech support again, and the girl who "helped" me said that I shouldn't have sent my cable, and they had no way of replacing it. She then told me to go out and buy a new cable myself. She started to get very nasty with me and informed me that I wasn't really a customer, because I only bought a Converter Box from Dish Network and wasn't a Dish Network subscriber. I finally ended hanging up on her. I had been very pleasant on the phone, and she had no reason to get nasty. It is not in my nature to hang up on someone. I have never before in my life received such poor customer service from a company. I did end up getting a cable from our local Dish Network dealer, who sells the DTV Pal Plus. He said that they are also having a horrible time getting replacement boxes from Dish Network on the few that they have had to return for customers. They have finally had to give the customers new boxes off their shelf, because they hadn't gotten the replacements from Dish Network.

"DTVPal not as good as other converter boxes" 2009-03-16
By M. Carter (Raleigh, NC USA)
This was the first converter I purchased back last summer. It works ok, but the Zenith DTT-901 digital converter box I bought at Circuit City (are they still around?) is better in several ways.

1. The remote on the Zenith is far superior, and has a power button for the TV. With the DTVPal you have to use your tv's separate remote to turn the tv on and off which is annoying.

2. The Zenith gets better reception and picks up channels that the DTVPal doesn't pick up.

3. The Zenith has both coax and composite video/audio outlets, whereas the DTVPal only has coax.

In fairness, the DTVPal has a better channel guide than the Zenith, but that doesn't make up for it's shortcomings. The Zenith is much better. My only complaint about the Zenith is that it does not have an S-video port, but then again neither does the DTVPal. I've also heard that the ChannelMonster is good, and I think it has S-video. Though the Channel Monster remote has some of the same drawbacks as the DTVPal (i.e. no power button for the tv).

"Only Seems to Be Good for Very Short Pds. of Uses...." 2009-07-29
By Y. Lee
I've tried several different brands of converter boxes & this one had the best reception with just the cheapest RCA rabbit-eared antenna(I live pretty much right beside a major international airport....), but its left side & its bottom heats up quite a bit even after very short pds. of uses(in just abt. a half of an hr.), making me too nervous to use it for long pds..... Also, the rather large & bright blue light that comes on when it's turned on & the remote's bright silvery front bother my eyes somewhat....

(On a positive note, the top center of the box has the buttons that can control the power, volume, & the channel changes that U can use if anything happens to go wrong with the small remote, & I believe that this box comes with a 1-yr. warranty....)

"it works like advertised" 2009-09-29
By Phillip H. Beamer
Make sure your resolution is 1024 x 768 or below before hooking this up. You will get a vertical scrolling otherwise. It works fairly well. My only real complaint is that the view is never the same from boot to boot. Some times a little long on the sides some times on teh top and bottom. But it still works well enough to watch movies and flash video.
